Growth & Development

An affluent city for many years, Danbury was chosen by thousands of New Yorkers who moved to Connecticut during the 2020 pandemic, to live closer to nature, in less dense areas. Many people from other towns keep coming here in search of a better life, as well as businesses that have a better chance to prosper in the more favorable climate they find here.

While several new homes and new development projects under construction in 2019 were completed by the end of the pandemic, new construction plans were approved to accommodate and welcome new residents and new businesses.

Moreover, in 2022 Danbury adopted a 10-year vision plan that includes funding economic development, rezoning and relaxing the restriction on building heights, increasing affordable housing in the downtown area, investing in infrastructure and streetscape improvement, as well as developing an open space and conservation plan.

Besides the many newly built homes in 2022, Danbury West Side continues to grow in terms of residential developments, including new homes under construction at the New American Village - the Rivington at Woodlands, and The Summit, with 400 new apartments planned to be built. Meanwhile, the Downtown area already has a new 149-apartment complex in a 5-story building right on Main Street.

In the eastern part of the City Center neighborhood, there are several new homes recently built and new development projects planned, as well as in the Northern Danbury, including the new gated community at Ridgetop, in the King St. neighborhood, not far from the beautiful Upper Kohanza Lake.
